Overview

Beautifully hand-painted Delft antique wall tiles depicting the 'Carré' ornament, dating from the late 19th century until circa 1900. Officially known as 'Würfel-carré', this decorated design is characterised by repeating motifs in the centre and on each corner. When installed together, the tiles form a harmonious geometric composition. A total of 16 tiles are required to reveal the motif, making this pattern particularly impressive in larger wall applications. Each tile is hand-painted, resulting in subtle variation and an authentic decorative character.

Condition and preparation

All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are fully prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a consistent appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character. If your project requires cut tiles, designated tiles with more visible imperfections can be supplied at a reduced price, helping preserve intact historical tiles.

Tile variety and stock

This collection consists of repeating ornament tiles designed to create a structured geometric pattern when combined. Representative images provide a clear impression of the full decorative effect. These tiles are available in significant quantities, making them suitable for restoration projects as well as larger interior design applications. Complementing tiles

These tiles are best showcased when used together, as the central and corner motifs align to form the complete 'Carré' composition. Using the full 16-tile layout ensures the pattern is visible and visually balanced. They can also be combined with related late 19th- or early 20th-century ornamental Delft tiles. In addition, pairing them with plain white antique tiles (witjes), both first and second quality, can introduce framing or contrast within a larger wall design.

Tile size

Each tile measures approximately 13 x 13 cm (5.1” x 5.1”) and is roughly 7–8 mm (0.3”) thick. As the tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.

How to order
Collectibles, books and sample packages of our reproduction tiles can be ordered directly on our website by clicking the 'buy now' button. Our secure checkout processes most credit cards, PayPal, iDeal and several other payment methods. In general these type of orders are shipped the next working day. As soon as they do, you will receive all the details from us to track the progress they are making.

Wall tiles, murals and reproductions can be ordered by making a quote request or by contacting us through our contact page. We will discuss all the details with you and move forward from there.
Shipping and packing
We ship solely with premium partners such as DHL Express and FedEx Economy/Priority. Based on the delivery address, value and weight of the shipment we choose the right carrier to work with. Each shipment is fully insured and prepared with all the required documents to pass customs when ordering from outside the European Union. All our tiles are extremely well packed. We use heavy-duty cardboard boxes for small orders. Larger others are packed in wooden export crates with multiple layers of protective foam.
Product disclaimer
Antique tiles
Antique tiles are handmade, so variations in color, size and texture are to be expected. Also, due to the age of the items, small chips and signs of use are common and considered to be part of antique tiles and the overall experience. Our tiles have been rinsed and cleaned intensely, making them suitable to be reused. However, we can never guarantee that all traces of sooth, salt or other forms of pollution have completely been extracted from the tiles. We expect our customers to be aware of this matter.

Color accuracy
Due to the relative inconsistencies of various display monitors, the colors you see on your screen may not be a totally accurate reproduction of the actual product.
