Symbolism plays an important role in why many fruits were depicted on Delft tiles, especially during the 17th century. Such as grapes, which were a symbol of fertility. Also the colour of orange played an important role, as it referred to the Dutch Royals.
Our gallery is located in the Dutch city of Franeker. Franeker is a small town that played an important role in history, as the second university of the Netherlands was built here. Although the university is closed, the buildings and the homes of professors still remain. Next to that, Franeker is home to the oldest still operating planetarium in the world.
In the historical center of the town, on a five minute walk from the planetarium, you will find our gallery. In our gallery you will find over 1000 boxes on display, all filled with antique Delft tiles. If you are visiting us, we will take the time to tell you all about our tiles, their history and our company. To take the virtual tour through our gallery, click here.
