Overview
This original pair of Delft tile murals, made in the Dutch city of Utrecht around 1870, depicts a seated dog and cat painted in manganese. Each mural consists of four tiles and shows the animal in a calm pose against a simple background, allowing the detailed painting to stand out clearly. Animal subjects remained popular throughout the 19th century and were often used as decorative elements in Dutch interiors.
Condition and preparation
These murals are in very good condition. The mural depicting the dog has one perfectly glued fracture in the top-right tile. Aside from this repair, both murals are well preserved and show only the normal minor wear associated with antique tiles of this age. The tiles have been fully cleaned, desalinated and prepared for reuse in a new tiling project.

We use heavy-duty cardboard boxes for small orders. Larger others are packed in wooden export crates with multiple layers of protective foam.
Antique tiles Antique tiles are handmade, so variations in color, size and texture are to be expected. Also, due to the age of the items, small chips and signs of use are common and considered to be part of antique tiles and the overall experience. Our tiles have been rinsed and cleaned intensely, making them suitable to be reused. However, we can never guarantee that all traces of sooth, salt or other forms of pollution have completely been extracted from the tiles. We expect our customers to be aware of this matter.
