Although there can be some debate about this scene, we believe that the woman is a peddler and is most likely carrying a large bag filled with peat (turf) to the market. It is a type of scene that has been depicted in a similar kind of way in the book 'Mensen op tegels / People on tiles' by Mr. A. Vrij on page 88. It is also possible that the woman is a 'farmer's wife', but in that case she would most likely be carrying different kind of goods. The tile is decorated with the 'fleur-de-lis' corner motif and is overall in a great condition with a beautiful glaze.
