This rare 17th century Delft tile dates from around 1650 and depicts a travelling merchant selling spectacles. Although merchants are not uncommon on Delft tiles, those selling spectacles are very rare. These merchants were also painted by Rembrandt van Rijn and Adriaen van Ostade. We added a photo of the painting by Rembrandt and a photo of the etching by van Ostade. Both works are part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The tile is decorated with 'ox-head' corner motifs and overall in a good condition with the normal superficial wear and chips.
