This type of Delft tile is in Dutch known as a 'poorttegel', which can be translated as a 'archway tile'. It is a rare type of decoration to find on Delft tiles. They all come with the characteristic archway and 'Wanli' inspired corner motifs in the top, but in the center the scene is often different. This one depicts a playful dog. The tile was made around 1640 and is in a good and pure condition, clearly with some chips around the sides and edges.
