The most beautiful lions on Delft tiles were made in the Dutch city of Harlingen around 1650. This is one of those tiles. The lion has been painted in a way that makes it look alive and that it can move into our direction any moment. The tile is painted in the characteristic 'Harlinger' shade of blue on a white/greyish background. It is decorated with 'ox-head' corner motifs. The tile is in a good condition with some minor chips across the surface.
