Overview
These antique Delft wall tiles feature a simple yet timeless diamond pattern and date from the 18th and early 19th century. The design is created by painting the corners in a deep shade of manganese, leaving a white diamond shape in the centre of each tile. Although understated in appearance, the repeating pattern formed when multiple tiles are combined creates a refined and elegant surface. Their restrained design has ensured their popularity for centuries and allows them to complement both historic and contemporary interiors.
This collection consists of ornament tiles with a repeating diamond design created through the use of manganese-painted corners. While the overall appearance remains highly consistent, slight variations in brushwork and glaze are characteristic of their handmade production. Availability may vary depending on current stock levels. For the most up-to-date stock information, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right-hand side of this page.
Condition and preparation
All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are prepared for reuse. They have been cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a harmonious appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character, making them ready for direct installation. If your project requires cut tiles, we can provide designated tiles of this type at a reduced price. These are tiles with more visible imperfections that are ideal for cutting, helping preserve intact historical pieces from unnecessary alteration.
Complementing tiles
These tiles are best showcased when used together, allowing the repeating diamond pattern to develop across the wall surface. They combine particularly well with plain white antique wall tiles (witjes), both first and second quality, making them ideal for borders, fireplace surrounds and decorative accents. Their timeless design also allows them to be integrated into larger installations featuring other antique Delft tile types.
Tile size
Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”) and 0,7 to 0,8 cm's / 0.3" thick. As the tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.
