Overview
This 17th century Delft tile (circa 1640) depicts a Chinese-inspired scene painted in blue. In the circular medallion at the centre, a seated figure appears within an architectural setting with clear oriental influences, reflecting the strong fascination with Chinese porcelain during the Dutch Golden Age. The tile is decorated with the 'three-dot' corner motif, derived from the Trinity symbol. This motif, combined with the stylised corner ornaments and central roundel, creates a balanced and refined composition typical of mid-17th century Delft production. A rather unique detail about this tile is that the artist forgot to finish the motif on the top left corner. The tile is overall in a good condition with some minor signs of its age.
