Overview
This Delft tile dates from 1660 and depicts a woman or man holding a shield. It might be a coat of arms or it is related to warfare and reflects the shield of a soldier. The exact meaning of this scene is unknown. It seems to be somewhat related to the added image of a 16th century Italian engraving of a shield holder. The tile is decorated with 'spider' corner motifs and was made in the Dutch city of Amsterdam. It has a few minor restorations along the sides/corners, but is overall in a good condition.
