Overview
Finely hand-painted Delft wall tiles depicting Dutch landscape and maritime scenes within an octagonal frame, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. These tiles capture idyllic views of villages, ships, windmills and canals, painted in warm manganese tones with remarkable precision and depth. Each tile features a quarter rosette in the corners, creating a repeating and richly decorative pattern when placed together. Originally used in kitchens, fireplaces and hallways, they remain just as suitable today. Adding warmth, character and a refined historical touch to both classic and modern interiors.
Condition and preparation
Each tile is carefully cleaned, desalinated and freed of soot, ready for direct reuse. Orders are hand-selected to ensure a balanced tone, glaze and surface character. If cut tiles are required, we can supply more visibly worn pieces at a reduced rate to preserve intact historical examples.
Tile variety and stock
The photo shows 16 representative tiles, but we currently hold a substantial quantity in stock. As every piece is handmade and centuries old, variations in brushwork, tone and composition occur naturally, giving each installation a truly authentic and layered appearance.
Complementing tiles
These antique landscape tiles pair beautifully with our classic plain white witjes from the 18th and 19th century, available in 1st or 2nd quality. We are happy to advise on the best combinations for your project.
Tile size
Each tile measures about 13 x 13 cm (5.1” x 5.1”) and is roughly 7–8 mm (0.3”) thick. Because they are antique and handmade, small differences in size and thickness are completely normal and part of their authentic charm.
A downloadable installation guide is available soon, explaining how to handle thickness differences and other practical details during installation.
How to order
You can request a quote directly on this page or contact us for assistance with tile selection and layout advice. Our specialists will gladly help you find the right combination for your project.
Samples
Samples can be provided on request to review tone, glaze and surface before placing an order.
Product disclaimer
Due to their age and handmade nature, antique tiles show natural variations in tone, glaze and size. While we cannot offer a 100% guarantee, each tile has been restored to the highest possible standard and meets our quality requirements.
