Overview
These plain white Delft wall tiles, known as witjes , are original 18th- and 19th-century tiles, handmade in the Netherlands. The 2nd quality selection shows more visible signs of age, such as chips, edge wear, hairlines, occasional glued fractures or discoloration. This naturally aged character makes them ideal for interiors where a more rustic, lived-in and expressive look is desired. Their tone variations and glaze differences reflect the charm of historical Dutch interiors.
Condition and preparation
Each tile is carefully cleaned, desalinated and freed of soot, fully prepared for reuse. Our 2nd quality tiles include pieces with more significant wear; chips, edge wear, small cracks, occasional repairs or surface irregularities, all contributing to their aged aesthetic. If cut tiles are required, we can supply pieces with heavier wear at a reduced rate.
Tile variety and stock
We maintain a large and fluctuating stock of 18th- and 19th-century 2nd quality witjes. Because they were handmade and fired individually, natural differences in tone, shade and surface are expected. We can curate selections that are more balanced or intentionally varied, depending on your preference, within the limits of what antique stock allows. Smaller selections are easier to keep closely balanced; larger quantities naturally introduce more diversity. Availability changes daily, so early contact is recommended for project planning.
Tile size
Each tile measures about 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”) and is roughly 7–8 mm (0.3”) thick. As antique handmade pieces, slight differences in size and thickness are normal and 2nd quality tiles generally show a wider range of size variation than 1st quality tiles, which contributes to their more rustic appearance.
A downloadable installation guide is available soon, explaining how to handle thickness differences and other practical details during installation.

Product disclaimer
Due to their age and handmade nature, 2nd quality witjes show natural variations in tone, glaze, wear and size. While we cannot offer a 100% guarantee, each tile is carefully prepared to meet our quality requirements and is suitable for decorative wall applications.
