Monumental restoration project with Delft tiles

On the 9th of March 2018 one of the oldest 18th century Dutch farm houses was presented to the public during a festive ceremony. After a restoration of more than 1,5 years, the new owner (Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser) was very proud to show the result to 150 guests.

The farm house had been abandoned since the 90's and was in a very poor condition when the restoration started. The wooden house had holes in the walls, roof and had been exposed to the influence of weather and vandalism for decades. Additionally, there were two monumental fireplaces in the farm that were completely tiled with early 19th century Delft tiles and murals. All these tiles were stolen in the 90's, during a time that the house was already abandoned.

We were asked by Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser to supply them with two antique and complete sets of Delft tiles for the fireplaces. Based on old photos and documentation, we knew exactly what kind of tiles were needed. In total it included 10 tile murals, border and plain white tiles. We needed several months to complete the sets, due to the specific types that were required. Fortunately, we managed and the result is absolutely stunning. Below you will find some photos of the project when finished and presented on the 9th of March.

Interesting to know; the monumental farm house can be rented! You can find more details here: https://www.monumentenbed.nl/home/oosterleek/huis-oosterleek/
