Overview
P-47 series – Ships
The P-47 series is a hand-painted reproduction of an original Delft tile set from around 1640. Each tile is painted in Delft blue on our Blue Mix base, finished with ox-head corner motifs (PCM-20) and pinholes for a classic aged look. This is our standard setup, but we’re always happy to adjust the shade, finish, or other details to fit your project.
16 unique scenes
This series brings together 16 beautifully detailed ship scenes, all based on a rare set of 17th-century Delft tiles. You’ll find a range of Dutch vessels from the period, including the famous Fluyt, VOC warships, a cargo boat, and a few galleys, all of which were key players in the Dutch fleet during the first half of the 1600s. These tiles reflect the adventurous, sea-going spirit of the Dutch Golden Age. Each one is painted by hand, so while the scenes stay true to the originals, the natural brushwork differences give every tile its own unique character.
Pinholes in the corners
Pinholes were part of the tile production process before 1860. A wooden board was used to stabilize the clay during cutting, leaving small pin marks - typically two, three, or four. This enhancement can be added to the P-9 tiles to recreate this authentic imperfection, contributing to their historic look and feel.
Crackled finish
Crazing refers to the fine network of hairline cracks that appear over time on antique ceramics, including Delft tiles. It occurs naturally with age, but we offer it as an optional finish to evoke the same aged appearance. If you're looking for a more antique, timeworn look, the crackled finish is a perfect match for the P-9 series.
