Overview
P-9 series – Animals
These Delft wall tiles are our P-9 series, based on original 19th - 20th century Delft tiles. This series is decorated with classic ‘spider’ corner motifs (PCM-01). They are painted in Delft blue, featuring a range of wild and rare animals. This is a charming set of typical Dutch tilework.
The photos show the P-9 series painted on shade Poarte-H, without the crackled finish or pinholes. This is the base configuration, but of course, the tiles can be fully tailored to your preferences.
24 unique scenes
This series consists of 24 different hand-painted scenes, each featuring a unique animal - from familiar species like horses, rabbits, otters, and stags to more unexpected or mythical creatures like a lion, a rhino, and even a unicorn. All scenes are exact replicas found on a late 19th century reclaimed set of Delft tiles.
Every tile is hand-painted, meaning no two are exactly the same. While the composition remains consistent per design, subtle differences in brushstroke and shading ensure each tile has its own character. This variation adds depth and individuality when the tiles are placed together.
Pinholes in the corners
Pinholes were part of the tile production process before 1860. A wooden board was used to stabilize the clay during cutting, leaving small pin marks - typically two, three, or four. This enhancement can be added to the P-9 tiles to recreate this authentic imperfection, contributing to their historic look and feel.
Crackled finish
Crazing refers to the fine network of hairline cracks that appear over time on antique ceramics, including Delft tiles. It occurs naturally with age, but we offer it as an optional finish to evoke the same aged appearance. If you're looking for a more antique, timeworn look, the crackled finish is a perfect match for the P-9 series.
