The all-in mix by Poarte is the definitive choice for those seeking the bold, eye-catching aesthetic traditionally associated with Delft tiles. It features all nine of our classic shades of white, each developed with inspiration drawn from 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century examples. Within this diverse palette, one may observe nuances of grey, white, blue, green, brown and even subtle pink. By opting for the optional crackled finish and pinholes (discussed below), the tiles can assume a more aged, imperfect, and notably authentic appearance. Incorporating these tiles imparts a distinctive, elegant quality to a wide range of projects.
The first photograph illustrates the all-in mix with both the crackled finish and pinholes. Additional images featuring an overlay depict the base version (no enhancements), as well as a selection of 16 tiles that highlight the crackled finish and pinholes. For more detailed information regarding these enhancements, please refer to the section below and consult the specifications tab.
Pinholes in the corners; pinholes reflect the historical tile-making process employed prior to 1860. During that period, a wooden board outfitted with two, three, or occasionally four pins was used to stabilize the clay tile during cutting, leaving small indentations. Reintroducing this feature (two pinholes per tile) preserves the authentic, slightly imperfect charm characteristic of Delft tiles.
Crackled finish; over extended periods (often spanning decades or centuries), many ceramic surfaces develop fine cracks, known as crazing. Choosing a crackled finish replicates this natural aging process, imbuing the tiles with a more vintage character. If you are looking for an aged and imperfect look, it is very much worth adding it.
