Overview

Single shade 17D is one out of six shades of white that we developed as the base for the most authentic Delft reproduction tiles available on the market. As we are specialized in antique Delft tiles, we know everything about the original handmade Delft product that was fabricated between c. 1580 and 1900. To develop these six shades, we used our own stock of antique plain white tiles as leading examples. By adding more characteristics of the antique tiles, such as pinholes in the corners (part of the production process before 1860) and natural crazing, the tiles create a very authentic look and feel.

Please continue reading below for more information about the opportunities these tiles bring, the enhancements and how to order samples.

Opportunities
If you are interested in purchasing our reproduction tiles, it might be interesting to know more about the opportunities that we have to offer.

Stick to one shade
You can choose to work with a single shade for your tiling project. As the tiles are handmade they will provide you with a very consistent but still lifely experience.

Mix certain shades
Plain white tiles are mainly known for their colour gradation. This can be achieved by mixing our shades in any way you desire. Mixing shade 17A and 17B will lead to subtle differences, while mixing shade 17A with 17D or 17H will lead to a very variated selection. You can mix as many shades as you like.

Add one or more enhancements
Our tiles are available with three enhancements:

Pinholes in the corners; pinholes were part of the production process before 1860. The tile was cut out of clay and to keep it steady while cutting it, a wooden board was placed on top of it with two, three or sometimes even four pins entering the clay (and thus the tile). This enhancements creates two of these pinholes in each tile.

Crazing; Crazing is the phenomenon that produces a network of fine cracks on the surface of Delft tiles (and other ceramics). It happens over time (decades, if not centuries). This enhancement is really a matter of taste, as many consider it to be part of the antique experience, while others prefer a tile without.

Extra (17th century) thickness: If you wish to combine these plain white reproduction tiles with original 17th century tiles, this enhancement might be interesting to consider. Original 17th century Delft tiles are almost always 1,5 times as thick as 18th and 19th century tiles. This ehancement reduces the difference in thickness, making it easier to tile them when combined with antique 17th century tiles.

Combine with hand-painted reproductions
Of course, it are not only the shades of white that lead to the most authentic Delft reproduction tiles, it are also our antique decorated tiles that are making the difference. We are using our own stock of antique tiles as leading examples for the hand-painted reproductions. You can browse our antique wall tiles and order reproductions of any type you might like. Of course, any desirable changes can be made. We plan on launching a fixed stock of decorated tiles by the end of the year (2018).

Combine with antique Delft tiles
Due to the shades of our reproduction tiles being based on our antique plain white tiles, they go very well with antique decorated Delft tiles. In this way you can add a real antique twist to your project. Some of our clients even use our 'collectibles' to create something absolutely unique.

  • Product disclaimer

    Antique tiles
Antique tiles are handmade, so variations in color, size and texture are to be expected. Also, due to the age of the items, small chips and signs of use are common and considered to be part of antique tiles and the overall experience. Our tiles have been rinsed and cleaned intensely, making them suitable to be reused. However, we can never guarantee that all traces of sooth, salt or other forms of pollution have completely been extracted from the tiles. We expect our customers to be aware of this matter.

    Color accuracy
Due to the relative inconsistencies of various display monitors, the colors you see on your screen may not be a totally accurate reproduction of the actual product. We strive to make our colors as accurate as possible, but screen images are intended as a guide only and should not be regarded as absolutely correct.
