Overview
Beautifully hand-painted Delft antique wall tiles depicting animals in blue, dating from the second half of the 17th century. These tiles depicts a wide variety of animal scenes, including dogs, birds, rabbits, deer, squirrels and other animals. With an age of more than 350 years, they reflect the lively narrative style and refined craftsmanship characteristic of 17th-century Delft tile production. Each tile is hand-painted, making every composition visually rich and authentic.
Condition and preparation
All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are fully prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed.
If your project requires cut tiles, we can supply designated tiles with more visible imperfections at a reduced price, helping preserve intact historical pieces.
Tile variety and stock
This collection consists of a broad range of animal scenes, each painted individually by hand. While the motifs vary, the tiles share a cohesive style, colour palette and period character. Representative images give a good indication of the overall appearance. For the most up-to-date availability, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right side of this page.
Complementing tiles
These animal tiles are finished with classic spider corner motifs, a hallmark of 17th-century Delft tile design. They combine beautifully with plain white antique tiles (witjes), such as plain white 1st quality and plain white 2nd quality, which help frame the scenes and create visual balance. They can also be paired with other figurative or floral Delft tiles from the same period for a more elaborate wall design.
Tile size
Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”) and 1 cm / 0.4” thick. As these tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.
