Overview
These antique Dutch wall tiles depict small Frisian flowers in traditional blue tones and were made during the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. The flowers are often shown with birds, butterflies or other types of insects. Painted without corner motifs, the delicate floral compositions are elegant in their simplicity and have remained a popular decorative element for centuries. Their deeper blue tones are characteristic of earlier Delft tile production and give the tiles a distinctly classical appearance.
Available in larger quantities, these tiles are particularly suitable for wall installations in kitchens, fireplaces, hallways and other interior projects. They combine beautifully with plain white wall tiles (witjes), large Frisian flower tiles and many other types of antique Dutch Delft wall tiles. As each tile was painted by hand, there is natural variation in the flowers, brushwork and shade of blue, creating an attractive and authentic overall appearance. Both crackled and non-crackled examples can regularly be found within this collection.
We also offer a later version of these small Frisian flower tiles, painted in the brighter cobalt blue tones that became especially popular during the 19th century. This younger variant has a fresher and more vibrant appearance while retaining the same decorative floral designs. You can view this cobalt blue variant here: Antique Delft tiles with small flowers in cobalt blue.
Condition and preparation
All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a harmonious appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character, making them ready for direct installation. If your project requires cut tiles, we can provide designated tiles of this type at a reduced price. These are tiles with more visible imperfections that are ideal for cutting, helping preserve intact historical pieces from unnecessary alteration.
Tile variety and stock
This collection consists of small floral compositions painted in traditional blue tones, each displaying slight variation in brushwork and floral form. Representative images provide a clear impression of the diversity within the decoration while maintaining a consistent overall style. A significant quantity of these tiles is currently available, making them particularly suitable for medium to larger wall compositions, restoration projects and interior installations. For the most up-to-date stock levels, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right-hand side of this page.
Complementing tiles
These tiles combine beautifully with plain white wall tiles dating from the 18th and 19th centuries (witjes), creating a balanced and timeless wall composition. They can also be paired with larger Frisian flower tiles or other floral Delft wall tiles to create a varied decorative arrangement while preserving a historically appropriate appearance. Their simple design without corner motifs allows them to blend naturally with many other antique Delft tile types.
Tile size
Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”). As the tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.
