Overview
These antique Delft wall tiles depict large Frisian flowers in cobalt blue and date predominantly from the 19th century. The flowers are often shown with birds, butterflies or other types of insects. Their bold brushwork and vibrant cobalt blue tones are characteristic of 19th-century production and make these tiles particularly suitable for larger wall installations. The rich cobalt blue decoration provides a timeless appearance that complements both historic and contemporary interiors.
We also offer an earlier variant featuring the same large Frisian flower motifs, painted in deeper and darker shades of blue with less emphasis on bright cobalt tones. This more classical colour palette was primarily produced during the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th century. You can view this older variant here: Antique Dutch Delft wall tiles with large flowers in blue.
Condition and preparation
All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a harmonious appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character, making them ready for direct installation. If your project requires cut tiles, we can provide designated tiles of this type at a reduced price. These are tiles with more visible imperfections that are ideal for cutting, helping preserve intact historical pieces from unnecessary alteration.
Tile variety and stock
This collection consists of a wide variety of large floral compositions painted in cobalt blue. The designs range from naturalistic flowers to more stylised decorative blooms, with each tile displaying its own character and brushwork. Representative images provide a clear impression of the diversity within the decoration while maintaining a consistent overall style. A significant quantity of these tiles is currently available, with stock levels exceeding 800 pieces. This makes them particularly suitable for larger wall compositions, restoration projects and interior installations. For the most up-to-date stock levels, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right-hand side of this page.
Complementing tiles
Slightly depending on the batch of tiles, these tiles combine beautifully with plain white wall tiles dating from around 1900 (witjes) or our antique plain white Delft tiles from the 1st or 2nd quality. We will recommend the best matching tiles for your project. They can also be combined with the smaller Frisian flower tiles from this time period to create a varied yet harmonious floral arrangement. Their simple design without corner motifs allows them to blend naturally with many other antique Delft tile types.
Tile size
Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”). As the tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.
