Overview

Beautifully hand-painted Delft antique wall tiles depicting animals in blue, dating from the mid-17th century (circa 1640). These tiles show a wide range of animal scenes, traditionally associated with hunting imagery, including dogs, deer and other animals. A small number of tiles also depict hunting figures, reflecting the original thematic context of the series. Each the tile is decorated by Fleur-de-lis corner motifs with balusters at the side, giving the set a distinctive and well-defined 17th-century appearance. Every tile is hand-painted, making each wall composition unique and historically authentic.

Condition and preparation

All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are fully prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a consistent overall appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character. If your project requires cut tiles, designated tiles with more visible imperfections can be supplied at a reduced price, helping preserve intact historical pieces.

Tile variety and stock

This collection consists primarily of animal tiles, all painted in a cohesive 17th-century style with matching fleur-de-lis corner motifs and side balusters. While the original series also included hunting figures, it is possible to select only tiles depicting animals. For the most up-to-date availability, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right-hand side of this page.

Complementing tiles

These animal tiles are best showcased when used together, as the fleur-de-lis corner motifs and side balusters align to form a coherent and continuous wall composition. Using the same tile type ensures that the decorative framework remains visually consistent. They can also be combined with other 17th-century Delft tiles featuring fleur-de-lis corner motifs, allowing for a harmonious extension of the overall design. In addition, the tiles pair well with plain white antique tiles (witjes), such as plain white 1st quality and plain white 2nd quality, which can be used to frame the scenes or introduce visual balance.

Tile size

Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”) and 1 cm / 0.4” thick. As these tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.

  • Product disclaimer

    Antique tiles
Antique tiles are handmade, so variations in color, size and texture are to be expected. Also, due to the age of the items, small chips and signs of use are common and considered to be part of antique tiles and the overall experience. Our tiles have been rinsed and cleaned intensely, making them suitable to be reused. However, we can never guarantee that all traces of sooth, salt or other forms of pollution have completely been extracted from the tiles. We expect our customers to be aware of this matter.

    Color accuracy
Due to the relative inconsistencies of various display monitors, the colors you see on your screen may not be a totally accurate reproduction of the actual product. We strive to make our colors as accurate as possible, but screen images are intended as a guide only and should not be regarded as absolutely correct.
