Overview
Beautifully hand-painted Delft ntique wall tiles depicting birds and flowers in polychrome colours, dating from the first half of the 17th century (circa 1630). These tiles were produced in the Dutch city of Gouda and belong to the earliest and most refined phases of Dutch tile production. The birds and rdetailed floral motifs are painted in harmonious colours, giving the tiles a decorative presence. Each tile is hand-painted, making every wall composition unique and historically significant.
Condition and preparation
All tiles are reclaimed antiques and are fully prepared for reuse. They have been carefully cleaned, desalinated and any soot residues have been removed. Each order is hand-selected to ensure a consistent overall appearance in colour tone, glaze and surface character. If your project requires cut tiles, designated tiles with more visible imperfections can be supplied at a reduced price, helping preserve intact historical tiles.
Tile variety and stock
This collection consists of a varied selection of birds and floral compositions, executed in a cohesive early 17th-century style. Representative images give a clear impression of the richness and refinement of the decoration. Availability may vary. For the most up-to-date stock levels, please refer to the quantity indication (pcs) shown on the right-hand side of this page.
Complementing tiles
These tiles are best showcased when used together, allowing the polychrome bird and floral motifs to create a richly layered wall composition. They can also be combined with other early 17th-century polychrome Delft tiles for a historically consistent installation. In addition, pairing them with plain white antique tiles (witjes), both first and second quality, can introduce visual balance and rhythm within a larger design.
Tile size
Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm (5.1” × 5.1”) and 1 cm / 0.4” thick. As the tiles are handmade and antique, slight variations in size and thickness are to be expected and contribute to their authentic character.
